Color of the year 2010

Last post was about the lovely blue color and guess what I found. Turqoise is declared the color of the year 2010! Turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and comforting escape from every day troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing. The lovely homewearbrand Olli & Lime is already presenting an adorable baby collection: Egg in the color of the year. So cute!

Budget (hotel) Bed Berlin

I'm planning a trip to Berlin this year and I think the Michelberger Hotel  might be a good place to stay. Three friends started with an idea to create a home together. They ended up with this affordable design hotel concept named after the designer Thomas Michelberger. Room rates start at EUR 65. The rooms are small but the interiors are design like. The touch of yellow gives all the rooms a fresh look. And the website is very creative. What do you think of this concept?

Have you already been in this hotel? I would love to hear your feedback/review. Please leave your comments below.

A room with a view

My sweet readers, Isn't this an awesome spot. Solid planted in the rocks, lies this house from the Danish ceramist Karen Michelsen. The interior is not the best I've ever seen but this view is to die for. I am dreaming to have a summer retreat like this.

Danish interior perfection

This large and charming villa from 1911 in Frederiksberg in Denmark is home to a family of seven with five kids. I just looooooooove the subtile use of black and green in this serene white Swedish environment. What do you think?

The wooden table with the Philip Starck chairs is just a beauty itself

Little flowers in the kitchen can be a great decoration, especially when combined with the mint color of the shelves.

A chalboard behind the cooking place
The subtle use of the mint green colour gives this kitchen a lovely twist

Dutch design icons

When you think of Holland the first associations that arise are for many of you Amsterdam and Tulips. Today, on this beautiful Sunday I would love to add some associations to your immagination when you think about my country. My country has a lot of lovely designers.Today we meet DROOG Design  (DROOG is a Dutch word meaning ‘dry’). This design label is based in Amsterdam. Founded in 1993 as a statement on design.  This design label played a significant role in defining Dutch design internationally. Today many of the designers that started @ Droog Design are well-known all over the world such as Hella Jongerius, Tejo Remy, Jurgen Bey and Marcel Wanders. Here are three of my favourites design items of DROOG Design:

1. Tree Trunk  bench by Jurgen Bey

Even a fallen tree can serve as a seat. The addition of bronze classical chairs backs makes it a proper piece of furniture, a crossing between nature and culture. Dutch designer Jurgen Bey makes clear that it is ridiculous to transport trees when they are locally available. Therefore only the chair backs are for sale.

2. Knotted Chair by Marcel Wanders

This is the very famous chair of Marcel Wanders. I just love his style of design. He even creates lovely wallpapers and interiors. You can find this chair also in the MOMA Museum in New York.

3. 'town House'

The DROOG 'town house' was developed in collaboration between droog design and architectural firm atelier Bow-Wow from Tokyo to renovate a town house located close to famous Vondelpark link: www.vondelpark.com in amsterdam. in town house typology that is narrow and vertical such as this one, it is unavoidable for the staircases to dictate the special layout that is clearly divided into floors
and rooms. Click here to see the movie.

This post is also published on Remote Stylist. I am the Dutch correspondent for this 'global hub for home decor'.

I bought this dress for a Black Tie ceremony next month. I think the color is just awesome and it's just a little different than the usual black dresses.

The dress is also available in pink
